Touchdown in Moshi!

I’m back in my other home ground of Tanzania with Paraglide Kilimanjaro — and it feels good! This time I’m leading not one, but two expeditions up Africa’s mountain.

If the winds are kind, we’ll swap sore legs for soaring wings with two epic flights off the summit.

What makes this round extra special is that Li Shengtao, the Chinese-born paraglider who famously flew off Everest in 2023, a year after my flight, is joining me for the first leg.

Expedition One: We’re already on the move, having left at 8 am this fine Thursday morning, the 21st of August. We have a merry crew of 10 hikers and pilots. If the mountain gods behave, we’ll be aiming for the summit and flight on 25 August.

Mid-Adventure Escape: Between expeditions, I’ll sneak off to Lake Natron, tucked right in the heart of the Tanzanian Rift Valley. It’s a wild playground of volcanic landscapes and flamingo-filled lakes, with juicy paragliding prospects from the jagged ridgelines and the top of the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai

Nothing like launching off something that might explode beneath your feet… keeps you humble.

Expedition Two: We take to the trails on the 6th of September with a group of 7 adventurers, eyeing a 10 September summit and fly day.

So here we go again: boots on, wings packed, tea kit ready (you know me).

Stay tuned for updates — either from the skies above Kilimanjaro or from a tent somewhere muttering about the weather.
